The fix doesn't ''cure'' already broken installations (i.e., `.pc` files
already containing multiple definitions, like usually `libpng[12].pc`).
To test the patch, you can change the contents of or remove the file
`$SAGE_ROOT/local/lib/sage-current-location.txt` (perhaps first removing
the line `SAGE_ROOT=${SAGE_ROOT}` from `libpng12.pc`). The former
triggers `update_pkgconfig_files()`, the latter
`initialize_pkgconfig_files()`.
