 This is interesting: when built in parallel, I do '''not''' get the error
 anymore.  So it is some kind of reverse race condition.

 Could you try simply installing palp serially from a working Sage:
 {{{
 ./sage -f spkg/standard/palp-2.0.p0.spkg
 }}}
 And then doing
 {{{
 ./sage -t devel/sage/sage/geometry/lattice_polytope.py
 }}}
