Well "install" works on Sparc solaris with is generally the yardstick for
how weird systems we support ;-) I think that install is a better choice
because
* its designed for the job
* cp -p might preserve ACLs or other extended attributes which you don't
want (not the GNU coreutils, mind you)
* autotools use it, probably for a reason
