Harald Skarke told me that the problematic function is actually unused, so
we can just remove it. I've updated the spkg with this alternate fix, so
now it should not rely on any GNU C extension any more.
I thought this would fix it but unfortunately nested functions are used
elsewhere, too. I'm waiting for Harald to get back to me...
