I don't see much point either. We had a similar discussion a while ago
about whether elements should be objects in a category, and as far as I
remember, the answer was no by default (Element does not inherit from
CategoryObject). So +1 on my side to kill this dubious feature. You might
want to double check on sage-algebra just to make sure.
