 Many thanks for your message. I'm glad it worked!

 On the level 1 code, on my machine setting p = 79, N = 1, k = 2, m = 3,
 the original version took 40s and the new version 43.5s. The algorithm is
 not randomised here, so something genuinely appears to be taking longer.
 Anyway, perhaps when you come to try out the new code you could have a
 quick look at this.
