something is wrong with my computer, and I should at least reboot.

Perhaps my laptop had just have a veeeeeeery bad day. I built gcc again
(with the gcc that I had built in the 8 hour session before), and it was
much faster. Also, my first attempts to build gcc (the day before
 yesterday) went better.

I have posted two install logs:

  *

The first] was from the day before yesterday, and it was in an existing
Sage installation. Note that that install log contains several
installations of gcc, with different parameters
  *

The second] is from yesterday/today and contains the very slow session and
also the faster session. Hence, it is again a documentation of two
installations of gcc. It was made BEFORE building Sage. That's to say, I
have first manually installed the dependencies of gcc+graphite, then gcc,
then installed the dependencies with higher optimization, then
gcc+graphite again (just to see if it is faster), and then I typed "make".
The new Sage installation is not done, yet.

Perhaps the experts (i.e., '''you! ''') can see from the parameters
documented in the install logs why it went so slow, yesterday. Note that I
use configuration options different from the original options in your
 spkg.
