The cast is defined at compile-time, not at link-time. To summarize, the
problem really is that malloc on Solaris only returns 32-bit aligned
memory.
Simon: There is only a single flat namespace on Linux and Solaris, so if
any shared library imports conflicting symbols then its just luck to get
the right one.
