With reference to Allwyn's email on unknown assailants and migrant workers, we all need to be careful, especially in villages like Saligao and not allow children and young girls to be out on isolated streets after sunset. There have been instances of intruders in the compound and burglaries taking place, and in cases where police had been called, sniffer dogs may have led them to places near to where migrant workers stay, but I am not aware of anyone been taken for questioning or arrests made.
We may not be against or bias about migrant workers settled in the village, but as per current police regulations of reporting tenents or even overnight guests (be it foreginers or Indians) , it should also be mandatory to house or land owners who hire out their property to such migrant workers (or their contractors) to also report this to the police and also to the Panchyat office in writing. If not let them be equally responsible of any crime (petty or big) committed by his tenants. Villagers of Saligao, do be more alert nowadays, especialy with the slowdown in businesses and construction works, many are becoming jobless and with no other means of income, crime rate is bound to increase as it has already started in some parts of Goa and many other places in India.
