Dear Albert
I Disagree with you. Helmet cannot prevent accidents, BUT it can help
prevent you from losing your life!!!!!!
The point here that the Govt and so many others are trying to make is
that "Life is precious" (its suicide prevention week also going on
incidently)
I have been involved in at least 2 incidents, wherin due to others
hitting me with their vehicles (not my fault) , *I have been saved
because of the helmet*.
And if you were in and around Saligao these last week, you would have
definatly noticed the policemen checking the licencies of tourista AND
locals alike zooming along the chog-m road. Just yesterday they
collected Rs 5,000 + in fines alone just after the border in calangute!,
I know because i was waiting for a client there close by and got
talking to them about their work. I must make a mention that in the 30
minutes or so that i was there - not ONCE did i hear or see anything of
a bribe or corruption playing its hands... are things turning? or was it
just a random act? time will tell
in the meantime - please please wear your helmet - you might be carefull
- but if you lose your life - your wife and children will miss you :-(

All accidents that take place on the chogm road is not because someone
is not wearing a helmet but due to other factors. Local tourists come
to Goa and hire a motor bike and zoom on ththe road. Police do not
check whether they have a licence or not. They will not try to stop
these monsters and check if they are drunk or driving recklessly. Poor
Barsen and Frank lost their lives when they were just on the road.

In 1983 when Chogum road was built, i was one of the first to have
met with an accident there. (a few may remember). fortunately for
me i still had my helmet on and believe it or not it saved my
life. My advise to all the youngsters out there - accidents don't
tell and happen, or could even be the fault of someone else - but
if it does, and you have your helmet on, it could save your life.
Life is worth living with a lot of choices. Make one of those
choices, to wear a Helmet.
