The usage of the Mae De Deus church image as a backdrop at the Goa Heritage
festival has, if anything, enhanced the reputation of the church and made
it iconic with reference to Goan heritage.

As a matter of courtesy one may expect that permission be sought, however ,
it is not required by law as the following extract confirms.

"

According to the Indian Copyright Act of 1957, Section 52, as currently
revised:
*52. Certain acts not to be infringement of copyright—(1) The following
acts shall not constitute an infringement of copyright, namely:*...*(s) the
making or publishing of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of a
work of architecture or the display of a work of architecture;**(t) the
making or publishing of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of a
sculpture, or other artistic work failing under sub-clause (iii) of clause
(c) of section 2* ["any other work of artistic craftsmanship"]*, if such
work is permanently situate in a public place or any premises to which the
public has access;*
*"*
*
*
The even has been very successful, well organized and most importantly has
brought communities together, which should be applauded.

regards
