Hi Annette

I think you got me wrong - I did not mean PLEDGE in the way of an appeal letter.

I have and am working still on a couple of fund raising drives and I shared one
of the ideas we have used,
The PLEDGE I am talking about is, as a person, for example - I PLEDGE Rs
50,000/- and I pay this amount
via 5 cheques of Rs 10,000/- each, this way I have made a kind of PROMISE ( if
you want to put it that way) to the
Church/ Organisation that I am pledging Rs 50, 000/-.

I believe this is a common way of supporting a cause or a need in European
countries too.

We have a large number of friends supporting Mary's Meals, a global
organization that feeds hungry children around the world and that includes
India and some 16 other countries.

What everyone does, they pay Dhs 60/- per month to feed a hungry child for one
year. This has worked and is currently an ongoing program here in the UAE. All
we need to do at an organization level, is to monitor and manage the funds
coming in, send wire transfers at the end of the month, send out reminders to
those who have pledged their XX amount.

In this case, there is a Fund Raising Committee, who can do this. I have only
shared an idea that we have used and has given us success, it is upto the
committee to use the idea, spread the word, and make it happen.

God Bless and I hope our Mae De Deus Church will receive funds from many
saligaokars near and far.
Zelma

Okay! We are finally down to the nitty gritty.

At last! Someone remembers the FUND! - Albert, you are right but that one lakh
at that time was ok as interest generated then was around 20% perhaps... now it
is down to 4% or 9%.... the Church & its Committee would require more now -
times have changed & how! As for shaking trees, perhaps we can just leave the
donations & generosity of the Saliganvkars, in the light of their devotion to
Mae de Deus, to the Saliganvkars themselves (in Saligao & around the World).

I guess only the Parish Priest & Church Committee would be able to confirm the
rest.......As of now it is only what I have heard from others (some
Saliganvkars are no longer living to confirm) that the money in the Fabrica
belongs partly to the "Bishop's Fund" so as to help with maintainenance of
other churches around Goa.

And yes, my grouse in recent years (there was no such thing before) has been
about part of the "Sunday Collection" of Saliganvkars again being "used for
other Churches"??? Maybe Albert & I are wrong! Would appreciate a
clarification from "those in the know". Acceptance is then mandatory, ....of
course thought & action could follow accordingly.

Zelma, I dont think a PLEDGE is required as the Funds Raising Committee is
already in place. Since Rico didnt check out my request in my mail of
yesterday, & as I have the APPEAL (all information is therein) with me today,
will just scan & send it through now. (after all it is Saligao-related!)

Have a nice day! We have reached our weekend & I am "tiredly" waiting for it
since the last weekend.

During the centenary celebration we had formed a fund of one lakh which was to
be used (interest) towards the maintaince of the church but I have been given
to understand that fund has been added to the fabric because the bishop wanted
that money. Secondly the church gives 50% to bishop every sunday. Now ask the
bishop for the money to repair the chuch. we had already contributed towards
the major repairs of the church. we are not shaking trees to give everynow and
then.

A Pledge would work well here to raise the funds that our Saligao Church needs.

Each member can pledge a certain amount towards the Church Fund, and plan it
over a period of 6 months to one year.
Please write to Mr. Rudy Saldanha ( Secretary) and Fr. Dominic, Assistant
Parish Priest, - both on the Fund Raising Committee, pledging your amounts, and
giving your contact details.

Email Addresses:
Mr. Rudy Saldanha - [email protected]
Fr. Dominic Sequeira - [email protected]

Together WE CAN support our MAE DE DEUS Church.

I refer to my mail regarding previous donor lists being circulated around the
globe. I also earlier touched on the point that Minton & Schubert made about
"The local / touristik authorities should be asked to contribute" & which I
thought was being done, & threw in about "Tourism Minister being from Saligao"
(would have thought it would be easier without it being regarded as favours or
handouts because of the word "heritage"). So guess some of us are on the same
wavelength including May.

I am sure most Saliganvkars at Home & Abroad would have received by now an
"Appeal" made by the Funds Raising Committee of the Church requesting help &
generous donations to complete the final & 5th phase of ongoing renovation
etc.. If not, I can get the same sent to you all through this Net if the
"Fathers" or "Incharge" of this Net allow this, or they could send it too
seeing that they are also in Saligao & would have a copy.

Reproduced below is the request, ...however, the "Appeal" (giving details & the
way in which donations could be made) is not with me at the moment....... so???
Rico, perhaps you could lend a hand here???
