Our Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar has already seen and chosen the Garbage Treatment Plant (GTP). As an IIT graduate, he is an experienced technocrat, and would know better than any of the 4 people that Saligao could send. So why duplicate his efforts? ii. Instead of the proposed 18 people going, a fraction of that expense could be used to get 1 expert down from Germany with all the equipment needed to explain the technology to us here in Goa. Using audio-visuals, models and samples, the expert would do a much better job of telling us about the GTP, than all the 18 combined. These would only waste precious tax payers money for a needless, expensive holiday. iii. The money saved by the Saligao foursome, could be used to implement the excellent 'Clean Saligao' Waste Management Scheme that Eknath and the Waste Management Committee have painstakenly designed. This would minimise Saligao's need for the GTP...guaranteed! iv. The offer of a trip to see the GTP in Germany, seems more like a gift-wrapped bribe to induce the 4 to approve the plant, on their return. v. If he CM has already decided that he is going ahead with the plant, why send anybody at all? Anyone offered this unethical inducement, should strongly turn it down, at least out of self-respect, if no moral grounds can be found. We hope that all our MLAs and other elected representatives in the Communidade and Panchayat who comprise the entire contingent of 18, will resist this clever temptation, save precious public money and in the bargain, gain plenty of respect from their voters and villagers. Warm regards and solidarity.
