July 25: Saligao News: ---On 17th of last month, the members of the Legion of Mary belonging to the Mae de Deus Praesidium, Saligao, along with their Spiritual Director paid a visit to the “Shanti Avedna” a home for terminally cancer patients based in Loutulim, the “Macasana Leprosorium”( Home for the lepers), Macassana ; Sanatorium( T.B. Hospital) and “ Hospicio do Clero”( Clergy Home), both at Margao. Their visit made a great impact on the sick, poor and clergy. The old priests at clergy home remembered their past years when they were in charge of such Legion of Mary groups in their various parishes and the work they were involved with the legionaries. This Saligao group also visited Rachol Seminary on their way. The Rector of the Seminary Fr. Tomas Aquino Sequeira and the Spiritual Director Fr. Santana Carvalho received them well. Bro. Leslie Rego, from Mollebhatt doing theology at Rachol and Bro. Caetano, who was at Saligao church earlier then took the legionaries around this historic Seminary. The Seminary gave them “chav-panni’ and all returned home spiritually uplifted. --In the last Parish Pastoral Council Meeting the Rev. Parish Priest, Fr. Francisco Ataide informed the members that the Family Service Centre of the Archdiocese was conducting a programme meant for training the lay people of the village who would function as animators of the center with an objective to motivate and set up family cells in the parish of Saligao.. Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas, presented the Planner of the Parish of Saligao with activities for the year 2004-2005.. Fr. Ataide suggested that Miss Seema Fernandes from Tabravaddo should be included in Parish Animation Team, while welcoming the new members.( PAT). Finals of Carrom and Table Tennis Tournament at Saligao. ---In the Finals of Carom and Table Tennis Tournament held on last Tuesday 20th July and organized by Saligao Sporting Club for Saligao villagers the following were the winners: *Carom Singles: Bonny Fernandes, from Mudd’davaddi defeated Vilas Morojkar also from Mudd’da-vaddi *Doubles: Vilas Morojkar and Siddhu Ghaddi, both from Mudd’da-vaddi defeated Bonny Fernandes( Mudd’da-vaddi ) and Krishna Vadkar( Tabravaddo) *Table Tennis *Juniors’ Singles:Ashley Pereira( Mudd’da-vaddi) defeated Charlston Dias( Mudd’da-vaddi) *Seniors’ Singles: Savio Mendes( Cotula) defeated Desmond Franco( Tabra-vaddo)
