Kev, I would be very interested to hear when (if) you get further with this.
I am not currently looking for anything this complicated but, I would like to have a list of the field names for the hostfile, this has been raised on the list previously, this would allow me to deal with changes to the hostfile easier, in my current situation. It was almost finished and then Dirk released 4.0. Since I've been swamped at work it will be a while before I can get back to working on it. Basically the elements of the host file are stored in the SQL table. A web interface is used to add/delete/change entries then write the new text hostfile. Using the built-in telnet server I load the new file and start checking. -Kevin > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Carroll, Andy > Sent: Friday, March 28, 2003 12:01 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [SA-list] Hostfile / Database query / idea > > > Dirk, > > would it / is it possible to load the hostfile into an ODBC > database table? > > This would make doing changes on the hostfile very easy as > you could do it using SQL. > > I have numerous areas of my hostfile that I would like to > update, as my hostfile has grown rather organically since I > started using SA and I would like to make numerous changes, > however doing them one at a time through the interface would > be extremely tedious, and just opening the hostfile in > notepad is not ideal as it is easy to get lost in such a > complex text file. > > Any thoughts or comments, would this be something other users > would be interested in. > > Regards, > > Andy > > As every if I have overlooked this very item in the archives > please forgive me.
