My problem is: I am considering making some fairly large changes to the entries I have in the hostfile. I have tried a few text editors to do various search / replace or macro / scripted routines to make significant changes, however when I save these to raw ASCII text format, SA refuses to load the any hostfile created this way. Am I doing something wrong? I have been in it for 14 years, I would of thought saving to ASCII text was a fair straight forward task, it certainly has never caused me difficulties in the past! I have found the only reliable editor to use has been NT / W2K Notepad, however the editing capabilities of this are severely limited. As I do not have the knowledge to understand what each section of the hostfile record relates to, having this in table format would necessitate column / field titles giving a better understanding of the hostfile structure. I am certainly no SQL guru, but I know how to manipulate data given the relevant column / field names. If I had this level of understanding of the hostfile structure then this would probably not be a concern. Are there any editors that you are aware of that give reasonable editing capabilities and still save to ASCII text files that SA will load? You still need to understand that way the fields "work". Lemme get this straight: a text file is too complex, and ODBC is going to make it easier? Hahaha. I know what you mean, but for most users, SQL isn't exactly a walk in the park. Would I pay money for the ability to do it? Sure, but the number of us who would pay, and the amount we would pay, probably wouldn't merit it.
