My host file is only 382KB and is on a local disk (RAID1, 10KRPM SCSI
disk). I do have logging turned on to maximum and set to local file on the
same disk.
I also see a large CPU spike during the period immediately after a host
check deletion, from an idling 5-6% to 60-65% (this is a Dual PIII/800
don't forget) before it drops back at the same time the GUI becomes
responsive again. This is approximately the same CPU utilisation level as
when SA is actually performing a check cycle (approx 50-85%).

I would lean more towards the rewriting of the host file. My host file is
1.3mb and is written to a shared drive across the network. When I delete a
check the CPU goes to 95+ percent, this is when the gui is not responsive.
As soon as I see the cpu utilization drop the gui comes back.
My guess is that a smaller and/or local host file would decrease the gui
delays.

Normaly logging shouldn't be causing this since during a delete/move we
don't log anything at all.
But to be sure you could (for the test) diasable logging and test it again.
Dirk.

Can it be another file causing the trouble ? Reading messages from the
other users there are a few with this issue, so it's not my file only..
Can
it be the logging ?

Just retested on a portable (P-3-850 with 512mb ram and running W2KPro) and
a delete took 3 seconds. A move of a whole branch of the tree to another
group took 3 seconds too.
Dirk.

That's strange! It's an (old) PIII 700 machine with 512mb ram and W2K pro

With your hostfile and your groups.grp file:
delete of an entry: about 1 second
move of an entry: 4 seconds

Same issue here also with about 50 entries, takes about a minute to get the
controls back

One of the reasons for this request, apart from convenience, is that since
upgrading from SA v3.x to v4.x I find that when I delete a host entry the
GUI takes around 1 minute to "come back" and allow me to interact with it.
Maybe this in itself is not normal? This may be tied to the fact that when
I
first start SA it takes 2-3 minutes for the GUI to become responsive as it
loads the host file. I only have 174 checks in my host file.
