Although I think the trap receiver should be a good way to go, I also sometimes separate some of the more critical checks into its own instance to reduce check cycles. Just a thought.

I am currently at 270 checks, and I havenât even gotten 1/3 of my environment entered into the program, and as of last week. We just acquired a company with an additional 20 sites, which just doubled our foot print. The particular devices that I want to be alerted on immediately are power and temperature. We just had one of our A/C units in our Chicago office trip itâs breaker. We had no idea the unit was out until the alarm company called me to say we have 90+ degrees in the server room. So I am planning on that to stick a power sensor on that same circuit, and a temperature sensor in that server room, so we are notified before the alarm company has to call us. As you and most everyone knows, every second/minute of downtime costs $$. I have SA poll our environmental device using OIDâs every 2 mins pulling back a temp value. Iâm not seeing how a 120 second +/- delay between checks is going to serve you better? Cheers, Barry From: Anthony Laatz [mailto:[email protected]] (mailto:[mailto:[email protected]]) Sent: June-19-12 6:31 AM To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] Trap Receiver In this particular case I want an APC unit to send SA a trap so SA will send me a email or SMS message saying an event occurred. Or another scenario have an environmental sensor send SA a trap saying its too hot in a room, and have it trigger SA and send me a message. Instead of waiting for SA to poll the devices for information every x minutes. Let SA send traps to your snmp receiver (like kiwi) or just let SA check a snmp value from a device and alert if that is incorrect? I am looking for the SA general user manual, but I cannot seem to locate it anymore on the website. I know the last revision was still for 6, but I am looking on how to setup the Trap Receiver Alerts. Iâve setup a couple, and when I send a test trap from the device I get nothing, no email alert. Anyone have that document?
