Could you not overcome that by setting appropriate permissions on the registry
key and the program files folder?

The admin login is still needed in order to be able to get/write the setup info

Although I do edit entries between checks sometimes, these occure even when I
am not changing any of the settings. I usually get a down message, check the
system that is being monitored and if it is okay I will check SA and SA will
show that it is up. It doesn't send a message saying that it came back up but
SA will show that it is. I will see what the logs say when it happens again.

Let me know about the admin logon though. If it doesn't require it then I might
be upgrading and it may take care of this issue.

Thanks,

If you edit the entry when it's down and edit it in such way that the next
cycle it's up, then you won't get the up notification.

I do edit entries between checks and the version is 6.2.2279. The only thing
listed in the WHEN tab are, when 2 times down and when back up. It sends me UP
messages when the system does actually go down and comes back online but when I
get the errors mentioned previously and the systems are still up and running I
do not get an UP when SA changes back to showing that the check was good. I
will start the SA logging today and see what it says.

I may be looking into upgrading SA but I was wondering if the latest version
still requires an administrator logon to run.

The alerting engine does not make a difference between a ping check or a remote
agent check. So if the "back up" isn't working for the Remote agent checks,
then it shouldn't work for the pings (and others) either.
Do you edit the entries in between the checks? What does the WHEN tab of
Servers Alive show?
What exact version of SA are you using?

I get Down reports from remote agent checks but I don’t always get a
notification that it is back up even though it is set to notify when back up
too. It seems to happen when I get the errors listed below and the systems are
not actually down. Any thoughts on how to have it report that it is running
when the program does catch on. Also, it sends the message on the first check
when the reporting is set to send when 2 times down.

ERROR: Invalid data received from remote server. Protocol error.

ERR: didn't stop within the given timeout

Thank you,
