Oh, sorry. I was going to mention this and forgot!

The palette is only stored in memory by basic. The machine actually
holds the palette in colour registers.

Basically, colour 0 is out (248), n, colour 1 is out (248+256), n etc etc.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone with a Tech. manual will correct me!!
