There's a composite sync line that comes from the ASIC, but that's
at TTL (0v, +5v) level. I assumed that most analogue monitors would
want a composite level signal (1v pk-pk). I used a TTL (a cub microvitec)
monitor with my sam once... you'd be surprised how well most software
worked with just 8 colours! I don't quite know what that's got to
do with the price of fish, but there you go....
