A proper XV always could read them as can the gimp. I'm going to make
some wild guesses here.

Ian mailed using Mutt, which suggests he *may* be using linux. If so,
chances are it's a RedHat distro, which means he may not have upgraded
his libjpeg which was broken in the 5.1 version of Redhat. Therefore his
xv may not like the jpegs when mine (On an upgraded redhat) is fine.

Probably all wrong, but it's the only explanation I can think of. Either
that or his browser's munging them on the way down. What exactly does xv
complain about?
