Rita;
I had some spare time this morning so I did a bit of snooping.. I know
others are trying to help and I hope I'm not horning in... but
I looked up the DNS record for sympatico.ca and found this:
sympatico.ca resolves (DNS "A" record) to IP 206.47.72.104
I am assuming this is the ip for the box that runs Sambar..
I see that (according to your last letter) you have recently changed your MX
record to point to pop1.sympatico.ca. As of right now, that change hasn't
been implemented. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to filter thru the
internet. But as of right now here's what it looks like.
Looking up the MX record (mail exchange) for sympatico.ca yields this:
sympatico.ca mx 5 toip1.bellnexxia.net
sympatico.ca mx 5 toip2.bellnexxia.net
sympatico.ca mx 5 toip3.bellnexxia.net
sympatico.ca mx 5 toip4.bellnexxia.net
sympatico.ca mx 5 toip5.bellnexxia.net
All have a priority of 5?? when I try to ping any of these MX records, they
do not resolve..
So you have 5 mail servers, all with the same priority and none of them
resolve. These MX records make no sense to me. Hopefully we'll see the new
MX record shortly that will allow the mail server to work.
(pop1.sympatico.ca)
When I port scan your sambar box (206.47.72.104) I only see 2 ports open.
they are:
port 22 (This port has something to do with SSH usually)
port 80 (This is the Sambar HTTP server)
Your ftp, pop3 and smtp ports are not open as far as I can tell. Can you
log into the Sambar admin function and verify that the ftp and mail servers
are turned on? If they are turned on, then either your ISP or your firewall
is blocking these ports. Are you behind a firewall? If so what type?

Monsieur Peter,
DNS Primary = ##
DNS Secondary = ##
POP3 Server = pop1.sympatico.ca ## has been corrected
I am still facing the same problem.
According to Mr Green suggestion, I could verify if port 21 was
available. Actually, it is not. I do not know what is using or blocking
it.
And I do not know (now) how to verify that.
I accepted the Mr Green's proposition. But, til now, he has not manifest
himself.
Thank you again Mr Peter.
 bientt,
Rita
