I am learning sanskrit, and have a question. Do the
declensions (Vibhakti s) have some set of rules that
completely govern all the declensions of all noun
roots (eg:agni, atman, nau, etc). At present I am
learning the declensions by-heart for each ending. I
am reading Coulson's book. I found in H.H.Wilson's
grammar book some rules of declension, but the problem
is: for each type of ending there are so many
exceptions, that remembering the exceptions is almost
as bad as learning the whole declesion-set by heart.
Appreciate any info.
- Srinivas
