Huet-mahodaya spoke correctly for the most part.
However, one of the lesser points said is not always
the case: "that external sandhi be carried out from
the left to the right".
The form for "come here" - 'ihehi' is the correct
form, but it does not come to be through any
left-right progression. (Jargon rules quoted in the
sanskrit below.) Indeed, the sandhi action in that
example is taught right to left by teachers such as
bhaTToji.
All the same, among others I agree with
Huet-mahodaya's statement "that preverb-verb sandhi is
external". As an aside, I greatly appreciate his work
in compiling verb forms.
