The rules are somewhat esoteric. I have sent them to
you off the listserv. In short:
> ... is "aham etaM sandeshaM likhan asmi" wrong ?

That usage is not idiomatic, and being non-idiomatic,
does not mean anything particular.

Correct. The 'etam' makes the immediacy of the writing
clear. If it were not, you could have added 'adhunA'.
