This is a message to the Illinois Society for International Development (ISID) listserve. ______________________________________The Mid-America International Agri-Trade Council (MIATCO) is a private, non-profit trade association of Midwest state agricultural promotion agencies. Its mission is the development and expansion of international markets for U.S. food and value-added agricultural products. MIATCO participates in the Market Access Program (MAP) of the Foreign Agricultural Service of USDA.Located in downtown Chicago, the Communications Manager is responsible for disseminating information about programs/benefits of MIATCO as well as its Northeast sister organization Food Export USA, and for providing educational services which will improve the ability of Midwest/Northeast food companies to export their products. Responsibilities include: supervising communications staff, providing integrated public relations, managing communications vendors, recruiting companies for MIATCO services, and representing MIATCO to a range of outside groups. Additionally, the Communications Manager will be responsible for special projects as directed.
Successful candidates should have a college degree, (preferably a graduate degree) in communications or related field. Ideally, they will possess at least five years of experience in association communications practices. Proven effective management skills in the areas of managing individuals and groups is essential, as is the ability to prepare oral and written reports in a professional manner and to communicate effectively both in person and in a variety of public speaking situations.
Overseas experience, foreign language, computer skills (including Microsoft Office) are all a plus. Domestic travel of up to three weeks per year is required.
