Dear Girish, IMHO, it is a good idea to use Linux O/S. My experience (during the last five years...) clearly indicates that it is more stable & reliable and - most importantly - much less expensive to acquire & maintain than its Windows counterparts.
REDHAT seems to be a good choice, although I am personally in favor of SUSE. Linux, in general, requires less maintenance than other Operating Systems, it is, however, a good idea for your customer - that will use your software - to train some of their personnel in executing some basic maintenance tasks (e.g., somebody will have to regularly backup the system...) or - even better - sign up a service agreement with an appropriate vendor.
