Hi Folks,

i've spend the last hours to read all the mails that came in last 3 days
from this list.

At this time I'm very unsure what is really getting to go on ! - actually,
we, a small company that are selling whisky online are planning to migrate
from MySQL to SAP DB .. but now this.

The point is that MySQL has too few features to satisfy us any longer. We
need a DB that has transactions, store procedures, triggers and a good
community or at least some good docu !

the thing is, that i dont know if the work is worth the time if sapdb will
be lost in 4Q2003 because mysql just "uses it as another DB within mysql".

Fact is:

MySQL is good to start with, is fast (as long as your Data is small!) and
easy to administer, but also fact is that many companys need more than just
an way to store data... they need a way to manage data !!! still mysql still
has not a search routine in it that works the way it should nor the
possibility of transactions ! - it was told 4.0 will have it a year ago, and
i decided to wait.. for what i asked myself when it was released ! - now
it's told 4.1 will have it better but we cant wait much more longer.. and i
would like to know if we should start changing everything to SAP DB or look
for sth. else like Firebird !

So please, guys at MySQL, community of SAP DB - please say if there will be
a Fork of SAP DB or how it will be integrated within MySQL! (and stop
talking this marketing **** like "we will integrate it into mysql" - thats
not possible...you cant make a BMW out of a Crysler by putting a BMW motor
in it !)

Fact is: the current SAP DB will not be accepted by the millions of MySQL
users because its too difficult and too big to understand within 10 minutes
!

greetings
