Well, I assume your architecture is x86 for both linux and Win2k, which works because they are of
the same architecture. Let's say if you wanted to do a restore from a Sun machine to a x86; then it wouldn't work
because of the endianess issue according to Daniel.

No, backups must have been created on the same architecture. There are some finer points, but machines with different endianess will definitely not work.

The Loader is the right tool for this task.
