Thanks, but no joy. FWIW both Kraft and Satchmo's version come preset to UTF-8 (and in my clutching at straws I've tried utf8, utf-8, and UTF8 also) I know there are a lot of copies/sources out there, I'll try to sort through tomorrow. I think I saw one at Zope which I'd assume is promising...
