The point is that the people in our culture are full of sadness, suffering, pointlessness, and that these things are entirely our own making: When we reject ideals and dreams, we contribute to this burning.
Ultimately, our fate is not separate from the fate of the main stream society that we come from. Our hope is to reconnect with the main stream, with the people on the other side of the line. Really, as soon as possible. But we won't be co-participants in it's drunken madness. We affirm dreams, vision, purpose, meaning, and the innocent heart that simply loves. If this sounds stupid, then say something that sounds smart. But make sure it has the same essence.
