OK, seem to have got to the bottom of this....
I deleted contents in ~/.pulse for the volume settings and the source and
that seemed to sort things out. Bit obscure. While it's not a liquidsoap
issue, I wonder if something should be done to better hint to users that
this is a issue with the audio system.
I've marked this as invalid/wont-fix as this isn't a liquidsoap issue
(though I've also changed it form a bug to documentation, should you think
this needs to be highlighted).
