 I'm sure this was the idea. But it is also the idea of declaring
 CAMLparams... when you declare a CAMLparam, the corresponding Caml value
 won't be released until you CAMLreturn, even if you release the global
 lock. This is the standard way to go. So my question is really: is there
 anything special here (bigarrays?) that justifies taking another approach,
 and hence risking surprises/problems?
