You identified the problem!

This issue was also raised in the past. We have fixed it in
1.0beta/SVN by introducing the notion of clocks.
Roughly speaking, you place the output that may hang in a seperate
clock and when it hangs it does not stop the whole liquidsoap!

I think it should be easy for you to update to a recent liquidsoap and
use the clocks to fix your issue. The documentation concerning clocks
