Unfortunately, the vumeter in Liquidsoap is only a quick hack in order to
debug signals on command line, not really intended for production.
Depending on what you need, I would recommand using an external program. For
instance, if you need a graphical program and use pulseaudio you could use
"pa-vumeter". If you need a command-line interface, you could use "arecord
-V". There is also a pending feature request of
http://dev.sourcefabric.org/browse/LS-465 to export the RMS (ie the volume
of the audio) on the telnet interface, I could implement this quickly if you
need it...
