I wanted to introduce myself briefly so as not to be a lurker... My husband and I (though we've been attending SCA events for years to shop and revel) recently joined. We figured it was time we paid for the privilege. Though it was mainly for me that we did join -- I have 2 lovely saluqi bitches who deserve to be involved with the stately hounds of the SCA.
Briefly about me and my hounds: I have been a sighthound lover for years, and an owner for a while. I know tons about salukis and other sighthound breeds and can prove it by saying I know enough not to say a whole lot lest I offer opinions that may not be shared amongst the group. I am a member of the Society for the Perpetuation of Desert Bred Saluki and freely admit that I am a research fanatic when it comes to my dogs and their history. So, alternative opinions are welcome. As for my saluki girls, they are: Springmeadow Hearts and Lace (Windswift line), aka Anoush (22 months old); and my desert bred Saudi girl, Hye Katu's Na'amah Takhouhi, aka Naya (6 months). My beloved Springmeadow Harvest Moon, aka al-Majhid, died in April 2002, and is deeply missed. I can totally identify with the person who mentioned the anniversary of their pup's death. However, I have heard an ugly rumor that salukis are not accepted at certain SCA coursing events. When my girls heard this news, they thrust their noses to the heavens and refused to speak to me unless I bribed them with bait. Or maybe that was just their usual behavior. So... what I need to confirm is whether or not my girls may enter any coursing events. We will be up Saturday-Sunday of Estrella at least, and I will need to know what I need to bring with us -- I have seen SCA coursing last Estrella, but I will need to buy specific slip leads or colored coursing blankets if there are rules I have not seen on the SCA Hound website.
