Dee, try two different books. One is "The Hound and the Hawk" which I believe
you have. There are a couple of hound stories in there. The other is "The
History of the Greyhound". The one about the Wolfhound (although they say it
is a greyhound) saving the boy from the wolf/snake (different versions) and the
owner coming back and killing the hound is in there. This is the hound that
was made a "saint" and later banned by the Catholic church. If you want I can
let you know what pages. I lent the Hound and the Hawk out but can get it back
this coming weekend. Rebecca

Subject: [SCA_Coursing] Legendary hounds

Hi, all,

Since y'all are the canine experts in the SCA, I thought I'd start
here....I am working on a poem in the later Anglo-Saxon style
(Wessex), and for the topic of the poem, I'd like to focus on a
hound. Isn't there some story about a wolfhound who defended his
master's son from wolves, only to be killed because the master
thought the dog was the villain (not the wolves)? Does anyone have
useful sources or suggestions for more "hounds of myth and legend"?
(British Isles would be great, but I'm not too picky). OE poetry is
incredibly versatile in terms of topic--the devil is in the details
of meter and form, sigh.

Thanks!!

Derbail
