The trick is to get the young pups soooo focused on the lure that
they *want* it above all else. But don't practice till they drop.
Stop before they get bored!

At the same time do *up* training for OB--teach 'touch', train to
sit. Just don't be super insistent on close heeling. Come is needed
in BOTH venues :-) and once they know how to learn (see touch above)
you can build on that later.

Dogs have windows of learning. A young pup is a sponge...you can use
that to your advantage.
Oh and NEVER EVER yell at at a pup you want to run if they steal
socks/anything white and fluffy!!! Gently trade for a toy. More good
dogs have been inhibited by this....

Oh and train your youngsters ALONE! Otherwise they may learn to chase
the other dog and not the lure...

For your older dog--they have Mommy Syndrome. As suggested go back to
basics and fishpole them with a fluffy sock or bit o fake fur. If you
get to practices use the NGA sqwaker WITH the white bag. Tie a bit o
Rabbit skin (fresh is best) to the bag. Or bait the bag with some
hamburger...all can help jump start the instinct. We run the lure
past a reluctant hound and then slip them as it passes--this can help
trigger the chase reflex.

My friends and I have (several) dogs that both run like maniacs AND
have a CDX or are working on one. First we worked on the chase with
some play training for come and leash breaking then on to formal OB
once they were well started in the field.

And remember Saluki are not necessarally the best breed to chase a
(ICK!) empty plastic bag--they are much better OFC dogs...Some play
the game some don't. Those that do seem to have a sense of humor
about it...

I thank the doGs that my breed's heritage test involves 200yds of
reasonably flat ground and a rag...

If you are anywhere near the Tri state (MD/PA/DE) area give a
holler--we are tryin to get some more practices in...

Ta
Carol-- who got one practice in this winter and who is staring at 8"
of snow for this weekend :-( Dogs are waaay bummed!
