I'm curious about this statement. I've often wondered if EBS is really not that much more reliable than the snapshot backups included in Scalr since both rely on backups to S3. In the case of EBS, is it that the risk of data loss is just moved from the instance going down to the EBS volume becoming corrupted? In both cases snapshots from S3 would be used to restore the data (with the potential for data loss since the last snapshot was made). Is this an accurate description or is there indeed a slightly higher degree of data "safety" with EBS?
