I'm not sure about this point, simply cause I have no icon there. Could
be Windows specific(?)

The latter might be difficult due to how it is done. (This window does
only show text sent to if from various areas of startup and doesn't know
what type of text it is.)

Yes.

I'll see to come up with something here. There're some (here Michal is
correct) which can be reused like New, Save, Open. If I remember
correctly we didn't change only them cause of consistency.

It _IS_ the clipbase and it does not make sense to create a database by
default cause you'll have to create it on disk cluttering up the latter
with empty temp files. Unlike your Excel example Scid does not load
everything to RAM work there on the base and then write the whole thing
back to disk upon save but you work on a single record (ie. a game) that
is stored to the base you've opened once you hit save. That is this base
has to exist on disk already.
I agree that the concept "Clipbase" is maybe a bit complex but it is one
of the essential strengths of the program and I think indeed every user
has to learn it. If you see it only as a display of the clipboard I fear
you miss a bunch of features.

It is not a name here either. You need some way to add
notations/positions to run searches from and this is done in this game 0
which gets "game n" once you add it to the base.
But if I now get it: your point is just the string shown? Ie. "game 0"
being to abstract? Not the concept of a game that is actually not
content of any base? (This is indeed an important concept like the
clipbase.)

?
Scid starts up displaying the clipbase which is a RAM based database
that always exists. It makes perfect sense to call it how it is called,
but I don't get what you want to tell. Sorry.

IMHO it is. There're just some specialities that have to exist for a
database app, that's all.
