I could imagine some "intelligent" version of "make
install". I.e. something like checking wether the bases are
there and ask the user and fetch it from your site if not.
Stuff like that.

Except that I admit that even on my high speed connection
here (100Mbit ;) it took some 20min to get 3.6.21. But maybe
I just picked some unfortunate high level phase at your
provider.

Hm, well ok. That's a point. So, cvs seems the way to go.
Would also solve the above problem (for me at least).
