Just a thought here: IMHO it would greatly improve the
usablity already if the settings menue is reworked to a
dialog based interface that collects the various submenu
items into single dialogs. I think e.g. about
Options/Chessboard and all the submenues and the others are
similar.

I don't know 8.5 internals, but maybe one could start
collecting this into a more commonly used dialog interface
based on 8.4 (e.g. board size just being a slider there,
stuff like that) and do it such, that it could even be
reused in the porting to 8.5 that way that one could end up
with a notebook based interface.

I see Pascals and Michals point about the widget problem.
Surely e.g. notebooks can not easily provided in 8.4. Hence,
one could say this widget is "out of question" for the
moment. But probably other widgets, closer to the 8.4 could
really be wraped to use this or that interface and thus
offer a smooth transition.

One of my concerns is, that if today scids ui is changed to
require 8.5 it makes up a box that could really end up in a
huge efford that could have a problem with completion. I'd
not be too ambitous as we all do the things in our spare
time. (and most likely cleaning up scids UI is not as funny
as implementing a new function one is looking for for years
;)

I agree here.

Me as well.
