Yes, I think you should leave the rating field empty if you don't know the
rating. You are point out what seems to be a terrible annoyance:

ratings. What happened is that the W-Elo and B-Elo fields got mysteriously
changed to "1807*". That's 1807 with an asterisk
Can you reproduce that behavior? If you can, this could indicate a bug.
Fulvio might be interested in taking a look at it.
