Christian,

You import a pgn to an existing Scid database in the same way:

1. Open the scid database you wish to import to viz: File-Open-"christian.si4"

2. Import the pgn: Database-Import File

The act of importing saves the pgn games to the Scid database. To see that they are imported you may have to open the Game List window and double-click another game.

Best Wishes

Hi Chhristian,

I've copied our previous email below this message so that other in the
group should see them.

I was just going to bed when I saw your post so I dashed off an
answer. I've only recently joined the project though I'm not a coder
I'm slowly going through the documentation to try to improve it. F1 or
click on 'Help' gives you the help file in the context of your current
window. As with most all Linux projects the docs are lagging well
behind the changes in code.

Try Ctrl-Shift-i when you are at the scid chessboard (Main Window)
This should bring up another window ( Import Window) into which you
can paste the whole pgn. In fact if you make a mistake typing in a
game this is the only way to edit it inside Scid.

Pgn files are plain text so use any text editor (I use Notepad++
on Windows 10) to open a copy of the email. message and you can modify
it from there.

Dear Maurice, thanks, my dbases work now. Yet the second problem is not
really solved, I guess. Imagine I have a PGN in text-format (e.g. in an
email or just from an internet blog). What is an easy way to get it into
Scid? Now it seems that I have to copy the text in e.g. ChessX, make a PGN
file, open it with Scid and import it into my scid dbase.

Thanks for your help,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Yes, scid can only use pgn files read-only. You must create a new database
in scid format then import the pgn into it:

File-New-"christian.si4"

Database-import

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just started with Scid (4.7.0) and like it very much. Yet there seems to
be bugs:

If I change a game in the dbase with my own games and try to save it (Save:
replace), I get the message that that is not possible a. I can only save it
via the option Save: Add new game. Afterwards I delete the initial game, but
that is very inconvenient. Pls advise!

Furthermore if I copy a PGN, open a new game and try to paste it, it doesn’t
work: I cannot insert the game. I just copy it via ChessX in the my dbase
‘my games’ and then load the dbase again to have the game available in Scid,
which is very inconvenient too. I also tried to import my current dbase ‘my
games’ into in a new dbase ‘my games Scid’ created in Scid, but the problem
remains. From one of the video’s on Youtube I learn that copy-past should
work (recent video), which it doesn’t, from another one that there should be
an option ‘import PGN text’ (older video), which fails at least in the
latest version of Scid. Pls. advise!

Best wishes and thanks for your help,

Christian Krijnen
