Most probable cause is lacking drivers for your sata controller.
This can be tested by going to the third console (Ctrl-Alt-F3 (F1 to go back) )
and typing lspci. Giving us this list would also help.
(I'm assuming this application is present on the SL-installation disk,
I'm however not sure of this)
(I'm also not sure if it's the third console, you can try others in case I'm
wrong: F2,F4,...)

None of them will load, but I'm using the list to find possible drivers o

the web and load them by floppy when it gets to this part. So far haven'

found one that works, but most of these I have no idea what they could be
though I'm learning somewhat.
I think the problem is needed chip controllers, because the main differen
ce
is that the older machines are Pentium D processors, the new ones are
Pentium E processors. Motherboards and chipsets are also different.
I've tried an upgrade of my Linux version, also another similar version.
Same result.
