Hi Troy,

Thanks, that is good to know. If somebody knows how to get the 4965
card working, that would likewise be appreciated.

<snip>

I just succeded to make it work on a Dell D830 laptop with this card
under SL5.1 :)

       the problem was that :

Aug 20 17:16:14 catlett firmware_helper[7658]: Loading of
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode for iwl4965
driver failed: No such file or directory
    ==

       and indeed iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.17-5.sl5.noarch contains

       /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965.ucode

       and *NOT*

       /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode

       A yum --enablerepo=* provides iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode

       gave me iwlwifi-4965-ucode.noarch 4.44.1.20-7.0.1
atrpms

       So I did :

       yum remove iwlwifi-4965-ucode
       yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=atrpms install
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.1.20-7.0.1.noarch

       and it works.

P.S. The fact that it is blaklisted does not hurt.

That is really interesting. We actually got the basis for the rpm from atrpms, but we pulled it from iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.17-5.0.1.noarch.rpm. Which, if you do
# yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=atrpms list iwlwifi-4965-ucode
Available Packages
iwlwifi-4965-ucode.noarch 4.44.17-5.0.1 atrpms
#
So, I believe we thought we were getting the latest firmware.
Now ... if you look at the download area for the firmware, I think I see the confusion because there is
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.57.2.21.tgz 07-07-08 00:17:06
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.57.1.21.tgz 07-03-08 18:33:46
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.1.20.tgz 11-27-07 17:46:05
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.1.18.tgz 07-27-07 01:17:29
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.17.tgz 07-15-07 22:09:55
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.15.tgz 06-14-07 20:50:34
iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.14.tgz 06-05-07 09:54:59

So their numbering went
4.44.14
4.44.15
4.44.17
4.44.1.18
4.44.1.20

Which is just ... well ... silly.

Anyway ... let me get an updated firmware rpm out that has both the old and the new firmware in it. Similar to what we've done with th ipw2200 firmware.

I'll put it into testing first.
