As I said, I already participate in several news groups back in mid of the
1990s and I can confirm, the discussions about the correct way of replaying
to a message was already part of the discussions in this time. And the
discussion was much more emotional than the mails here on the list ;).

    Perhaps it was seen as a welcome break and a thread to let off steam on
    all sides of the argument, something a list server was not designed to
    do.


That's a good point, let's go back to technical problems and solutions :).

The big thing, Thomas, is I am not a machine. And to me the RFC you cite
means nothing. Humans are too erratic to abide by some silly RFC that
declares how they MUST post.

I also note that blogs work top posting mode. You must hate them.
