That was part of the fun of those old detective shows. The guys weren't invincible, weren't some kind of Special Forces/Green Beret/SEAL who could kill a man with their pinky. They were regular guys who had to depend on sleuthing, healthy "tips" to the local pimp or drunk for information, and good old fashioned stubborness. Made them more relatable to me. Remember Jim Rockford? He was always getting beat up too, and i loved that show.
