Scintilla does things (mostly text measurement) differently to
GtkSourceView and there is a good chance they have different
performance profiles.
I looked at it last year and from my experience the GtkSourceView is
generally slower than scintilla.
But is the "scintilla" you are comparing with a GTK-based widget or a
[non-GTK] Windows version?
